Making Your Living Room Come Alive
give your living room that cozy feeling
The traditional family living room is expected to perform a wide range of
functions. In the not too distant past, the “front room” was the main space to live, work and eat in. As our homes
grew and technology took over, the living room became, for some, little more than a space to watch TV in. Family
living rooms have the potential to be so much more and to reflect our personalities. What can you do with this special space to set it apart from the rest of the home?

Get Cozy For The Winter With A
Snuggly MultiFunction Room
Depending upon where you live, winter can be the time when the living room sees
its most use. As the days grow shorter and the weather gets wilder, the natural temptation is to nest and hide
yourself away. A cozy room will have the fireplace as the center of attention. If you don’t have a fireplace
already, there are some excellent options for wall mounted units that give flexibility and style to a
room. Bring in natural tones and colors all
around. Curves and softness from furniture, throws and cushions all add to the general cuddly feel of the space.
Just being the TV
The cocooning embrace of a soft room can be fantastic when the snow is piling up
outside and you have a cup of cocoa, but for some families, it will end up just being the TV room. There is nothing
wrong in embracing both sides to your family within a multi use space. If movies and shows bring your family
together then why not just acknowledge that fact and own it? Modern data projectors and home surround sound systems
are plummeting in price. With the new short-throw projectors, even a small living room can have a screen the size
of a wall. The beauty of this is that you can maintain the
minimalist approach of a cozy hideaway as you don’t have an ugly box in the corner of the room.
If you really want to take this to the limit, you can hide storage away on shelves
that lie behind heavy velvet curtains, further adding to the cuddly warm feel of the place. By scouring Craigslist,
you can find old cinema seats and vintage posters in frames to hang around your wall mounted fireplace. The beauty
of cinema seating is that they fold up and by using casters on your sofas and theater seats you can change the feel
of the room as the mood takes you. Lush knitted throws can cover up the seating you aren’t using and you can pick
between a cushioned womb or an insulated cinema as the mood takes you.
There is no such thing as a one size fits all living room. The only thing that
matters is that the room reflects your family and
how you want to use the space. Think carefully about what is needed to bring you all together and focus on
producing that. The front room of old may be dead but there is no reason why the idea behind it being a space for
everyone should die too.
