The great thing about any room remodel is choosing how the walls, ceiling, and the floor will look. Normally, this means deciding on a flooring option and whether or not you paint the walls or use wallpaper. But, for a bathroom, things can be a little bit different. Personally, the best idea is to have bathroom tiles on the floor and walls. I think this creates a modern look and makes the room pop. Plus, it’s not feasible to have wallpaper in a bathroom, it will just get wet and ruined. Tiled walls are much easier to clean, and they look way better too. Worried about slipping on a tiled floor? Then get some fancy bath mats to calm these fears!
Shower/Bath, Sink & Toilet
There are a few things that make a bathroom different to other rooms in the house. In this room, you’ll have a sink and a bath/shower at the very least. Sometimes, the toilet is in here too. Your first decision is picking the design of these things. What do you want the sink to look like? Will you go for a ceramic design or maybe a marble one? Then, think about whether you want a bath or not. Some people have a bath and a shower, others only have one. For me, I need both because a shower is good for quick washes, and a bath is great for a relaxing soak. If you want your toilet in here too, then pick a nice design. The important thing is that everything matches and you don’t have things that don’t compliment each other.
A lot of people get carried away when renovating a bathroom and forget about a key element; the plumbing. If you’re getting a new bath, toilet, sink, whatever; it needs to be installed correctly. All of the pipes need to connect to your home plumbing system, to ensure everything works. For amateurs like you and me, this is a very tricky and time-consuming job. But, there are plumbing companies like Benjamin Franklin that can do the installation for you. It’s very important that the plumbing in your bathroom is installed correctly. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use it properly; it will be more like a showroom than a proper bathroom!
If you want to give your bathroom a real edge, then you might consider some fancy features. Underfloor heating is a great idea to keep your feet nice and toasty when you step out of the shower. I’d also recommend some mood lighting to help you relax more when you’re in the bath. To take things a step further, why not have a sound system installed in the roof? You can play relaxing music as you soak, or play the radio while you sing along in the shower.
If you follow all my tips, you’ll end up with a great bathroom that your family can enjoy!
